Sean joined in September 2014 as an Assistant Site Manager in our Manchester division and is currently completing the Foundation Degree Programme in Residential Development and Construction at Sheffield Hallam University. He has recently won the 2014 Foundation Degree Student of the Year award.
“Before starting work for Barratt Developments, I recognised them as the largest housebuilder nationally, but also locally in the area where I live as Barratt had several active sites near to me. I knew the Barratt brand to be very strong and I had researched the Company to gain a further insight into the aims for future talent and projects.
Prior to working for Barratt Manchester, I worked as a Plumber. I worked in domestic houses and I also completed a 4-year NVQ apprenticeship - working for a local company and then went on to work as a self-employed contractor. I attended evening college to complete a qualification in construction prior to beginning my job role and degree through Barratt Developments.
I was attracted to the Barratt Foundation Degree Programme as the Company has a strong ethos for improving the environments where they build, whilst supporting local communities and offering a sustainable approach to construction. This is something that appeals to me as I have a constant drive for personal improvement and the programme would give me the opportunity to have a ‘hands on’ approach to Site Management whilst studying the techniques and theory involved, achieving the academic degree to support it.
No day is the same at Barratt; each day offers new challenges. Working alongside other departments gives an insight into the importance of each department, and how each role contributes to achieving quality finished homes with 100% satisfied customers.
The best part of my job is when the home we have been constructing is build complete, the street scene is created and there is a huge sense of pride in knowing my personal involvement has resulted in a lasting legacy to the site. Seeing our customers excitedly move into their homes with their expectations over achieved is fully rewarding.
I would recommend Barratt as employer due to how much I have enjoyed my first 15 months work for the Company. The challenges I have been set and achievements I have made in such a short space of time has set me up in the industry. I have received continued support from every department alongside the support from Group and tutors at Sheffield Hallam University.
The best part of the Foundation Degree Programme has been achieving high results in my first year and receiving the award for ‘Student of the Year’ 2014”.
