Perry Tonks, 1st Year Quantity Surveying Apprentice At Bam Nuttall
11 years ago

Interview with first-year civil engineering apprentice Perry TonksI am currently completing the first year of the Bam Nuttall apprenticeship scheme, and I recently started my first site placement. I have been positioned on the Crossrail project in London. This meant that I would have to move away from home. Moving away was a huge step for me, however I feel that I have gained a massive amount of independence in making the move and managing to settle down in the busiest city in the UK! I never thought that at the age of nineteen I would be working in London on such a huge project, but this apprenticeship has allowed me to achieve this and I have fully enjoyed every minute so far.

Bam Nuttall is a great company to work for and offers a great opportunity for the right applicants who have an interest in civil engineering/quantity surveying and are willing to learn about the industry. I applied for this apprenticeship after completing my A levels at college as an alternative route to university. I have no regrets in making this decision in any way. I am now gaining real life work experience on one of the largest projects in the UK, having a huge impact upon the London area, whilst gaining qualifications relevant to the industry along the way at college on a block release basis.

I aspire to have a lifelong career with Bam Nuttall whilst working my way up the ranks at every possible and given chance. This apprenticeship will provide me with the chance to do this because the placement elements of the scheme allow the apprentices to show their true potential by working on large projects with people of great importance in the business.
