A former student midwife has had a sea change and has launched a career in watersports – following her heart to live the life she wants to live.
Jessica Ligh thas launched a career in the water thanks to funding from the Milo Hanlon Bursary. She was able to get funding to do UKSA’s Kickstart course which has allowed her to get ahead in watersports.
It enabled her to shine during the selection process for the Neilson funded Watersports Instructor Training and is now working at a Neilson resort as a qualified instructor.
The funding allowed 19-year-oldJessicato progress with her career that bit quicker.
She said: “I was a student midwife living in London and wanted to change. I told my mum I wanted to work in watersports and she found out about UKSA. I used to go surfing and kayaking but had no experience in sailing or windsurfing or anything like that. I just knew it was what I really wanted to do. Getting the funding meant I could do the course and follow the career I wanted.”
Jessica knew she had done the right thing as soon as she started the two-week Kickstart course. She was then selected by leading activity holiday specialist Neilson to be funded by them to become a watersports instructor. She completed her training at UKSA and will work the next couple of seasons at a Neilson resort, so she has the security of guaranteed work.
“I love the course, it’s been great fun. I feel that I am in the right place now, it’s like home. I love waking up and being able to do watersports all day every day. I can’t wait to start as a watersports instructor, to feel the heat in the sunshine and start instructing.”â
