David Aitken - Electrical Apprentice

The 21 year old, qualified scuba diver heard about the apprentice electrician position through his uncle who works at an ISS site. After sending off his CV, he undertook an aptitude test for training provider and recruitment specialist BEST and was invited for an interview.

As an apprentice electrician, David is involved in a wide range of work from installing new electrical wiring systems, changing and repairing light fittings and general electrical maintenance around the site. By shadowing qualified engineers he is gaining an invaluable insight into his chosen profession andexpanding on the techniques used in his daily work.

“I hope my apprenticeship will give me enough qualifications and experience to make myself very employable in the future for ISS; it’s an immense stepping stone to being a successful engineer,” said David.

“I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to others as I think they are so important for making sure there are enough skilled tradesmen and women for future generations. It is an absolutely brilliant way of gaining the qualifications and experience young people need to kick start their careers.”
