My role and what I do
As the Media Relations Apprentice at The FA I am part of a pro-active campaigns team within the wider Communications team. I work with the media and journalists to create positive stories about The FA and our products such as England, FA Tournaments (Emirates FA Cup, SSE Women’s FA Cup etc.) and Wembley Stadium. For example, I am tasked with finding interesting stories about the clubs that take part in the FA Cup and arrange media days to showcase these; I arrange photoshoots of The FA Cup as it travels around the country and create press releases following the event, involving the local media. My overall responsibility on media days is to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that stories represent The FA and our competitions in a positive light.
Highlights of my apprenticeship so far
A key highlight of my apprenticeship so far would be working with Sky Sports when they covered the 5th year anniversary celebrations of St. George’s Park (our national training centre) along with the number of national teams rising to 28. My colleagues and I had to ensure that FA staff were prepared and comfortable with the format of the TV interview before Sky Sports needed them. As this was my first experience of working with the media it was really exciting, especially as Sky Sports is such a well-known brand.
What attracted me to the FA?
I was attracted to The FA because of the size of the organisation and the opportunities it could offer to develop my career. While The FA is about a lot more than just football, I am a big football fan and have always wanted to get a job in this industry, so The FA seemed like the perfect place to start out.
