Schools out! And, after the year that we’ve had, we think that you’re well within your rights to spend some quality time catching up with mates in the places that have had their doors closed for far too long. This is especially important if this is the year that you are leaving home for the first time having finished school and are destined for university or your first proper job. However, you may be sat reading this thinking ‘I’m not sure what I want to do’ or ‘how do i get that job that I want?’. These are really common questions for school leavers (speaking from personal experience) and it's perfectly normal that you haven't yet decided on what you want your next step is. But this does mean that, alongside your social calendar, you will need to start to work on what your next move is and we think that Insight sessions are a great place to start.
What is an insight session?
An insight session is a broadcast by a company designed to give you all the information you need to make a good decision on whether they are a place that you want to commit your time and effort to. They can take various forms depending on who is hosting it and what the subject matter is. A classic example of a session could look like this -
Normally, considering the current pandemic and to ensure that as many people as possible can attend, they are held virtually on a platform such as Zoom, Google hangouts or Microsoft Zoom.
Don't forget to book your place in advance as they sometimes have limited places.
How can it help with decision making
It’s difficult to make decisions when all you have to go by is a web page with some pre-produced videos on and a text only job description. An insight session opens the bonnet of an organisation so that you can hear from, and most importantly, speak to and ask questions to the people who work there! After all, these are the people that will be your colleagues and team mates, it's perfectly understandable that you would want to find out more about them and crucially, if they love what they do before applying.
Depending on the organisation, the recruiter may be happy to give out their direct email address so that if you have any questions or concerns that you want answered when you are weighing up your options, you can drop them an email. Finally, due to the nature of these sessions, you will leave with an abundance of information that you can use to factor in to your decision making
