Deciding what you want to do when you leave school or college can be confusing. With so many options to choose from and so much information to digest, it can be hard to know where to start.
Attending events like What University? & What Career? Live at the NEC, Birmingham, on 4 & 5 March 2022 is the perfect opportunity to explore your options under one roof. You’ll have the opportunity to chat with representatives from top universities & employers, as well as careers advisors and CV specialists. Plus, take advantage of free skills workshops and presentations, covering everything from choosing the right career path to acing the application process.
To take full advantage of the event, here are our top 5 tips to help you make the most out of your visit:
Check out the Show Guide in advance to see who’s exhibiting and the talk timetable - make a list of universities/colleges and employers you want to find out more about and what you’d like to ask them. Consider drafting your CV and bring a printout. Don’t be put off by not having a lot to put on there – you can get help with that (see tip 3)!
Watch as many presentations that cover your interests as possible, whether it’s a career in health, a degree apprenticeship or your future in the creative industries. You may be surprised by the options out there and you might discover possibilities you didn’t even know existed!
Careers advisors, workshops and other drop-in advice centres are there to help you – yes, you! Improve your employability and hone your confidence in a future skills workshop or take along your current resumé for an upgrade at the CV Clinic.
Thinking about a career in the creative sector? Head over to the Creative Hub to discover how you could unleash your creative talent through an apprenticeship. Or unsure how to pick the right career for you? Get one-to-one advice from independent careers advisors in the Advice Lounge. It’s not over after the event! If you still have questions unanswered or found something appealing that you want to pursue, follow up while it is fresh in your mind.
As you explore the event, ask for the contact details of people that you speak to, or find out who you should contact if you have any further queries, so you know where to go if you remember an important question on your way home!
