Antony Jenkins has been appointed as shadow chair for the new Institute for Apprenticeships.The Institute for Apprenticeships is a new independent and employer-led organisation which will support the government plan to create 3 million apprentice starts by 2020.The institute for Apprenticeships will act as the decision maker on approving apprenticeship standards and assessment plans. It will also make recommendations on the amount of government funding available and how much employers can claim.Who is Antony Jenkins?Antony served as the chief executive of Barclays plc from 2012 to 2015 and is also the chairman of Business in the Community, which supports businesses in acting socially responsibly. Antony began his career as a graduate trainee at Barclays in 1983. He worked at the bank until 1989, when he joined Citigroup. He later returned to Barclays to fill a series of senior management roles in retail and corporate banking.What will the shadow chair do?Antony will be an ambassador for the Institute for Apprenticeships. He will help to design the structure of the institute and will provide strategic leadership as the institute develops.Antony said:Apprenticeships are something I care passionately about.
