The first term of the new school/college year has nearly finished, which means you can now start to look forward to a week off for the October half term. Do you have anything planned or do you need some ideas on things you can be doing in your time off? Why not take a look at our recommendations on how to make the most of your October half term.
Relax and catch up on the latest movies/series
You might be exhausted after working so hard in school/college for the last six weeks, so having some down time might be good for you. There’s always new series, movies and games being released, therefore why not enjoy some of them in your week off! It’s important to have some time to relax and switch off. However, try not to do this the whole week, as you will struggle getting back into a routine when you return to school/college.
Setting goals
Setting career goals has many benefits and advantages for your career growth and your personal development, so this could be something you think about or start doing in your half term. It can give you the drive and motivation needed to get through your school/college year successfully. If you need some tips on goal setting, read our blog which focuses on this.
Arrange work experience/volunteering
It will look great on your CV if you do some volunteering or work experience in the half term. It will help you stand out when applying for jobs in the future and it shows you are hard working, focused and eager to learn new skills. There are many options out there in different sectors/industries, you just need to search online for what’s near you or go out there and see what’s available locally.
Get up to date on homework
Have a look through each subject and make sure all your homework is completed and up to date. It’s better to stay ahead than rushing the night before to get it done.
Research open days/ events/ careers fairs
If you’re in a position where you’re thinking about your future career plans, start researching different open days, events and careers fairs near you. Autumn/Winter is a key time when these take place and they can give you some guidance, advice and hopefully a better understanding of what’s out there after school/college. A lot of these events are free to attend, but you might need to register for your place so always double check.
Get organised
Going back to school/college can be overwhelming at times, especially at the start of a new school year. That’s why you should spend some time organising your things, so you are prepared for the new term. This could be tidying up your room so you have enough space to do your homework and revision, or maybe looking at everything you’ve been given so far from your teachers to ensure you stay on track with your subjects. By the end of the week, you’ll want to feel confident and ready for going back to school.
Hopefully this gives you some ideas on how to make the most of your October half term. Remember to not overdo it and enjoy yourself, the week will fly by!
