Melina Zachariou, studied Creative Media Production at Level 3 and is now going to the University of Westminster to complete a degree in Journalism. Melina said, “I feel immensely proud that my work is being shown in the Bernie Grant Arts Centre. I’ve told all my family and friends, and feel a great sense of achievement.” Melina continued, “I love the versatility in the course, all the different areas that we cover such as photography, journalism, using Photoshop - and I feel very well supported by my teachers, who are always there to help.”
The ground floor housed art installations which in the darkened spaces seemed suited equally to a bijou nightclub as much as an art gallery. Exhibited on the stairs and mezzanine floor where paintings drawings and graphic designs from Media Students.
Jaron Semper, who is a Games Development HND Level 5 learner is moving on to Huddersfield University in September for the final year of his degree. Jaron said: “I’ve developed a high level of expertise at the College in programming, design and storyboarding. I’m looking forward to taking my skills to the next level at university.”
As well as the vibe and buzz of the smoothly organised event taking place in an ideal purpose-built location was the more serious side of learners meeting and networking with potential employers.
Music Technology learners were well represented by HNC Level 4 Music Technology learners Jordan Blake, Jason Waters, Ife Olalusi of Da 3 90’s were present and all progressing to HND Level 5.
The performances were magnificent and included Oluremi Abaci an HND Level 5 learner who is blind and progressing to complete his degree at Westminster University alongside classmate Loraine James. Their singer Mamudo Djalo, studying HNC Music Production got everyone up with his fantastic energy and dancing skills.
Kurt Hintz Vice-Principal for Curriculum and Learner Experience, said: “Our Creative and Media students put on a fabulous show each year. I was especially pleased to see that so many of our students are either going on to university to complete their degrees or staying at the College to study for our higher education courses.”
