The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s ESOL learners presented the charity Noah’s Ark with a cheque for £142.32 today which they had fundraised through a bake sale last month as part of National Volunteering Week.
The Level 1, 2 and 3 learners decided on a bake sale to raise the money and chose to donate the funds to the local charity Noah’s Ark, a community based hospice service providing support for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in North London.
Community Fundraiser for Noah’s Ark Sarah Latchford, who attended the event to accept the cheque said: “We really appreciate the support of the ESOL students at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London and for choosing us to donate the money to. It will enable us to provide support to the children and their families in the North London area who have life-limiting or life-threatening condition live their lives to the full and achieve their aspirations.”
National Volunteer week took place during 16 – 20 March where a range of employers visited the College to discuss with students the many volunteering opportunities and how they can help the wider community. Students throughout the College also took part in a range of fundraising activities over the course of the week.
ESOL Lecturer, Tueybaha Salahuddin said: “We’re extremely proud of how hard our students have worked. They baked and decorated beautiful cakes for the sale and raffle. The money is certainly going to a good cause and one that they felt was very worthy.”
