Pawel completed the Access to IT Level 3 course with Distinction and progressed to King’s College London, where he graduated with first class honours in Computer Science. Pawel then went on to study for Master’s Degree in Computer Science. He is now travelling the world as a Software Developer. Pawel said, “I chose the Access to IT course as I needed a new start in life. I knew it would give me the opportunity to go to university and pursue a career in IT. The Access course prepared me well for my degree, especially the maths.”
Pawel was invited to speak at the Access to Higher Education fair as a role model because of his huge success. He explained how he had arrived in the UK from Poland, unemployed and with no IT knowledge. The Access to IT course equipped him with the skills he needed for a successful career. Pawel went on to explain that the staff at the College were really supportive and gave him the confidence to apply to university and to believe strongly in himself.
Laila Hassanzadeh, Curriculum Manager (ICT, Computing, Creative and Media) said, “Pawel was a “dream” student who demonstrated excellent personal qualities and academic abilities. He had natural intellectual curiosity in many computing areas, great enthusiasm to explore new areas of knowledge, accumulated valuable and complex skills and engaged with new ideas. Pawel was committed to his studies and highly motivated to achieve his targets. He was always first to submit his coursework and first to achieve top grades in his group. Pawel was a friendly, open-minded and very supportive to his classmates and teachers. He was mature and reliable, and always demonstrated high respect to his lecturers. Indeed, to teach such a learner as Pawel was a pleasure and indeed its own reward for any teacher.”
