17 Years Old And Almost A Fully Qualified It Technician!

Rob Gregory 1My name is Robert Gregory, I’m 17 and from Preston, currently studying a Level 3IT apprenticeshipwithQA Apprenticeships.

I attended Lostock Hall Academy where I gained 2 B’s and 5 C’s at GCSE. When I left school I didn’t really know anything about apprenticeships, and instead I decided to go to college to study IT for a year. I felt the college wasn’t right for me, so left the school with a distinction after my first year. I moved to a different college to study an IT Practitioner course, which seemed to be better but it still wasn’t quite what I wanted…

Whilst at the college I started looking for an apprenticeship as I thought that classroom study wasn’t the right thing for me. Lostock Hall Academy always encouraged me to go for an apprenticeship, as they believed that having the experience of doing the job rather than just learning from the text book in a classroom was more beneficial!

Rob Gregory 2As soon as QA contacted me with an apprenticeship in my area I was excited and put my application forward for it straight away.I was offered the job, and so decided to leave college early and start the apprenticeship in February this year. It was the best decision I have ever made! You learn far more from doing the job instead of just learning the theory and not how to practically use it.

After finishing myIT apprenticeshipI will be a fully qualified IT Technician, and I am excited to pursue this career when the apprenticeship ends. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone!
