Over the last number of years Emilia Chapman has engaged with us (Careers in Racing & the British Horseracing Authority) on various projects and events to pursue her early career and ambitions to work in the horseracing industry.

Emilia and her family first joined us in 2023 at our Explore Racing Day at Brighton. This was a careers focused event showcasing the various career paths in the sport. She then went on to attend days at Goodwood, Newmarket and Newbury gaining more knowledge on the foundation course.

Emilia joined the Careers in Racing Youth Collaboration Group allowing her to network more with people of a similar age all wanting to work in the sport. She’s an active and confident member of the group getting involved in many projects, tasks as well as supporting other members with anything that comes up and contributes where she can.

In April 2025 she took up the chance to go to the BHA head office in London meeting some of the other YCG members as they spent the day meeting various BHA and Great British Racing staff for their development.

Emilia has taken the steps to start her career with gaining a place on the Riding A Dream Academy. Attending a one-week residential course that was part of RADA gaining some valuable experiences and teaching. This included visits to The National Stud, Tattersalls & Newmarket Racecourse.

She has gathered plenty of hands-on experiences too. This has been at racing yards such as Coombelands Racing Stables and Suzy Smith Racing. Then she got the opportunity to go to Kingsclere Park House Stables. This we know was a big dream of hers and she’s hoping to return there working as part of her placement. She has been invited back later this year.

The next steps in Emilia’s career is for her to start her foundation course at the British Racing School in Newmarket and start her apprenticeship in the horseracing industry in the summer of 2026.
