ROLE OVERVIEW:
I
am a Hardware Engineering Apprentice, studying for a degree in Electrical and
Electronic Engineering and working in the underwater systems area of Thales. My
role involves collaborating with experienced engineers on the design,
development, and testing of advanced sonar technologies used in underwater
applications. This hands-on experience allows me to apply my academic knowledge
directly to projects that have real-world impact.
What did you do before Thales? How did you find out about us? How long have you been with us? Have you transitioned roles or progressed since joining us yet?
Before
joining Thales, I completed my A-levels at a local school near the Crawley
site. My interest in Thales began when I attended an apprenticeship insight
evening hosted by the company, which provided valuable insights into the
opportunities available. Following that, I completed a work experience
placement with Thales, where I got to know more about the people, the culture,
and the work they do. This experience confirmed my desire to pursue a career
here. Now in my third year as a Hardware Engineering Apprentice, I have worked
across a wide range of projects and taken on more responsibilities as my
experience has grown, allowing me to contribute more significantly to our
team's success.
Why is your current role important? How do you add benefit to your team?
As a Hardware Engineering Apprentice studying Electrical and
Electronic Engineering, I apply concepts from my degree directly to real-world
projects, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the team. I add
value by taking initiative in solving complex engineering challenges,
collaborating effectively with my colleagues, and continuously expanding my
knowledge of the latest technological advancements. As I take on more
responsibilities, my contributions help our team meet project deadlines more efficiently
and support Thales's commitment to innovation and excellence. Being part of the
underwater systems team, I find it both exciting and deeply rewarding to know
that my work directly impacts the safety and effectiveness of maritime
operations.
VOLUNTEERING STORY
Have you volunteered yet? What did you do? What did you gain or enjoy from volunteering
I have volunteered by returning to my former college, The
College of Richard Collyer, where I delivered apprenticeship talks during their
Science Day and assisted at a Thales stand during a careers fair. This allowed
me to educate and inspire current students and their parents about careers in
STEM and the opportunities available through degree apprenticeships at Thales.
Volunteering has enriched my communication skills and boosted my confidence,
especially in public speaking and engaging with diverse groups. It is deeply
rewarding to give back to the community that helped shape my own career path
and to help bridge the gap between education and the professional world.

What
I enjoy most about working at Thales is the opportunity to face new challenges
