The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills has announced that the national minimum wage for apprentices will increase from £3.30 to £3.40 from October 1st.

The Low Pay Commission, who advises on pay, recommended the rise in pay for apprentices along with other recommendations.

This increase comes after Government increased the minimum wage for apprentices aged 16 – 19 in their first year from 1stOctober 2015 by 57p per hour, to £3.30, which went beyond the recommendation of the Low Pay Commission (LPC).
